Penang - Cultural Gem of Malaysia

I've been updating the test and pictures from this trip for weeks and weeks. The past weeks were crazy-crazy: at first was busy with finals, then busy with my trip to Thailand and Vietnam and finally getting home and resting a bit.

So, Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia was pretty damn cool (probably like most of the trips) but this one really had something special. It was not that much about adventures and tanning on the beach, it was more about museums and cheap but good food! The city has a very artsy vibe with its cute anglo-indian garden houses and of course all of the street art!

For breakfast there were many options available downtown, I liked pretty much every meal I've had and especially with the Malaysian prices it is twice more enjoyable.

Then we visited the Pinang Peranakan Mansion. The Chinese people coming to do business in Malaysia were very rich and it was interesting to see how they lived back in the 19th century.

Luxury all around the mansion!

Couldn't resist the mirror selfie opportunities, oops!

Next stop in the city was the Trick Art Museum that had a lot of 3D paintings and it was basically the perfect museum for creative photoshoots.

This church looks really nice from the outside but unfortunately it was closed at the time we were near it so we couldn't visit it, but here's some interesting background facts about it.

And of course the famous Blue Mansion, now transformed into a hotel and recently a shooting location for the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

To finish the day we also went to the Secret Garden that was near the beach. We were really hesitant whether to go that late at night but we figured that the lights will be better when it's dark outside and that would also mean that we would one more thing crossed form our list. It was very magical, it really felt like we were in the movie Avatar :)

On the next day we slept in, had another nice breakfast and went visiting the mosque nearby. They were even offering free tours.

Then we spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach (which we had to ourselves almost) and had a really nice time swimming and tanning, until it started to rain.

Since it was raining we decided to leave and tried our luck by taking a taxi (grab) towards the Penang Hill in hopes that the rain would stop. Lucky us it did and the vies didn't disappoint at all!

And the night finished pretty late t this AMAZING restaurant. Honestly, it was probably my most favorite place from all the 5 countries I've been to in SEA. The Mexican food was so tasty and I've never enjoyed salsa and margaritas as much as I did there. We might have even had a few too many drinks but it was ALL GOOD.

Last day in Georgetown was about walking on the streets and finding some more street art places and make our way to the jetties before heading to the airport.

All in all I think that 3-4 days is enough for visiting Penang, but it means that there would be a lot of walking without much time for relaxation. But that's what makes these trips more intense and full of memories, right?
